Speaking up for quality

The Health Foundation has been asked by the Department of Health to review indicators of the quality of general practice in England, and they will be exploring how these multiple measures might be developed to support improvements in patient care.

NHS must evolve for an ageing population

For the first time in UK history, the population of people over 65 is greater than that of those under 16. This is a cause for celebration: more of us are living longer lives. However, with this new demographic profile, policy changes are urgently required.

Updating district nursing standards

The current NMC standards for specialist practice in district nursing, which lead to a recordable qualification in district nursing and other community specialist qualifications, were published in 1994.

District nursing in the digital age

On 16 February, I had the privilege of chairing the QNI's conference on district nursing in the digital age. Nearly 200 delegates filled the room for what had been termed 'an accelerated learning event'.

Politicians must recognise carers

The election frenzy has started. The main political parties have presented their manifestos and there is a pressing need to understand the implications of the health policies within their proposals for reform and change.
