Breastfeeding and asthma

Breastfeeding protects against asthma and wheezing, according to a meta-analysis of 117 studies published between 1983 and 2012.The authors, from Ipswich, grouped outcomes into 'asthma ever' - in other words, at any time - 'recent asthma' or 'recent wheezing illness' (recent asthma or recent wheeze).

Supporting breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is recommended by the WHO but mothers need support to establish and continue successfully. Suneeta Kochhar provides an overview.
