Claire Johnston will be the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s newest registrant council member

Claire Johnston will be the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) newest registrant council member.

‘It’s a great pleasure to welcome Claire to the NMC. Claire joins us at an important time, as the organisation drives forward an ambitious programme of work. I know that her knowledge and expertise will be a valuable addition to the Council and we look forward to working with her to protect the public,’ said Philip Graf, chair of the council.

Ms Johnston is currently the project director at Capital Nurse. Based in North London, the project ensures that nurses are adequately staffed in their workplace and have the correct skillset to deliver the best care.

Having spent her nursing career in the community, acute and mental health sectors, and having occupied the role of director of nursing for 20 years, Ms Johnston is pleased with her appointment.

‘I am excited to be joining the NMC at this critical point. The Council’s strategic reform programme is ambitious and in step with the fast pace of change in our professions,’ she said.

‘I’m looking forward to playing my part to ensure every registrant can provide the highest standard of safe practice for our public throughout the UK.’
