The Care Quality Commission (CQC) will launch a 'tough' system of checks on care home providers this week.

In a bid to develop an early warning system to offset the failure of care homes, the CQC will be given the power to require financial and relevant performance information from care providers. It will be able to require providers to develop and submit a 'sustainability plan', which would outline future risk to organisations. If the CQC notes substantial risk, it will commission independent reviews to help providers return to financial stability. It can also require information from providers to support local authorities to manage a provider failure.
