The first dementia specialist Admiral in South West London has been appointed by SweetTree, a care provider in Richmond.

The first dementia specialist Admiral nurse in South West London has been appointed by SweetTree, a care provider in Richmond.

The Admiral nursing service was created by Dementia UK to provide information to relatives of patient's with dementia, and advise them on the best ways to support the person they care for.

Rikki Lorenti has been appointed in Richmond to provide care and support to people with dementia and their families in the area. He previously worked for the organisation Young People with ddementia, based in West Berkshire. Mr Lorenti said that his new role was an 'amazing opportunity to develop a service which complements and develops the current care packages it offers'.

He added: 'Providing psychological support and facilitating carers to continue caring for their loved ones is so important; we are enabling families stay together.'

Recently, it was announced that the service will be expanded to cope with the rising demand for information and support for dementia nurses.

Nicki Bones, operations director of SweetTree and a dementia specialist, said: 'The role an Admiral nurse plays in helping family carers is hugely beneficial to those lucky few who can gain access to them. Rikki Lorenti stood out for us as someone whose empathy and experience are a perfect fit for SweetTree.'
