The recently appointed chair of the RCN's Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Forum has renewed calls for regulation of ANPs. Nurse partner Wendy Fairhurst told RCN Congress: ‘ANPs often perform the roles of GPs but do not have a standard skill set. How do employers know they are safe and competent? ‘If regulation is not mandatory, it won't happen.' An RCN survey found 88 per cent of the workforce backed mandatory regulation of HCAs.
