Mental health
Amira Obeid and Wasim Hanif examine the impact of the pandemic on mental health

The outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), better known as COVID-19 is probably the greatest challenge faced by healthcare workers in the United Kingdom. COVID-19 can cause a spectrum of disease ranging from asymptomatic to severe disease causing death. It has across the globe affected people causing disproportionate mortality in elderly, people with underlying health conditions, lower socio-economic strata and BAME (Black Asian Minority Ethnicity) communities.1, 2

It has also affected many frontline health care staff resulting in some cases of severe disease and death. Thus, it is no surprise that the current pandemic is causing a great deal of stress and anxiety in health care workers.
