Endometriosis is a condition which affects women of reproductive age. Symptoms can vary widely in severity, ranging from very mild and asymptomatic, through to moderate or severe. In these cases, women may experience numerous problems with a resultant impact on quality of life. The confusing presentation often leads to multiple consultations and a delay in diagnosis with Endometriosis UK suggesting that this may take as long as 8 years after initial onset of symptoms.1
This article hopes to give nurses and non-medical prescribers more confidence in recognising this disease with the hope that they can be instrumental in getting an earlier diagnosis and treatment for any women affected, with the aim of reducing the unpleasant effects of this potentially distressing disease.
