Graham White comments on disciplinary meetings

Q: I have been accused of being rude to a patient. My manager has requested that I attend a meeting and they have told me I can be accompanied to the meeting. Is this a disciplinary meeting and could I lose my job?

A: This can be a alarming time for an employee and the uncertainty can cause stress and anxiety. The first thing to do is stop and gather all of the information you have been given. Make sure you have the request to attend the meeting in writing. This request should also include details of the actual complaint against you. This will be important as you will need to present a detailed view of the incident from your point of view.
