Identify your competitors: anyone who provides a similar service to what you are proposing and is within a reasonable distance.

The exact distance may vary depending on how much you are charging - you may be prepared to travel 100 miles for a fantastic deal on a new car but you wouldn't be prepared to travel 5 miles for a fantastic deal on a tin of baked beans.

The internet can be a good source of competitor listings as can local health or business directories. Every business has competitors and it is a common mistake for new entrepreneurs to imagine their service is unique.
