Community nurses scoop awards for innovation

Written by: | Published:

The innovative care provided by primary care and community nurses was celebrated at two national award ceremonies last month.

Cynthia Jones, district nursing team leader at the Brecon medical Group Practice in Powys took home the British Journal of Nursing award for community nursing for the implementation of a local leg club, demonstrating an improvement in the management of long-term leg ulcers and healing rates.

At the CPHVA/Unite Awards, the health visiting team from Northenden Health Centre in Manchester, scooped the award for community practitioner team of the year. The team was praised for effectively managing a socially deprived area with the full range of health visiting challenges and 'still managing to remain cheerful at the end of the day'.
