Part two of Professor Dame Sally Davies' annual report recommended surveillance of data across the NHS and partnership working between healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry to encourage development of antibiotics.

Public Health England must encourage informed uptake of immunisations during pregnancy; ensure school nursing is fit for purpose for new vaccinations; and boost patients' knowledge of infection risks abroad before travel.
