First baby from frozen ovarian tissue

A woman in Belgium has become the first in the world to give birth to a baby using transplanted ovarian tissue.

A woman in Belgium has become the first in the world to give birth to a baby using transplanted ovarian tissue.

The 27-year-old had an ovary removed at the age of 13 before receiving treatment for sickle cell anaemia.

Her ovary tissue was frozen as the chemotherapy she required could have destroyed ovarian function.

When she decided she wanted children doctors grafted the thawed ovary back onto her remaining ovary.

She became pregnant naturally and gave birth to a baby boy.
