A day in the life of...

Emergency nurse practitioner, Elizabeth Everett, at Bristol Community Health's urgent care centre.

A typical day for an urgent care nurse is rarely typical. I have been a nurse for 23 years, and have been at Bristol Community Health's Urgent Care Centre for one year. My work within an emergency department (ED) and even as a nurse in the outback of Australia helped prepare me for the ever-changing environment in the centre.

The Urgent Care Centre is located next to the South Bristol Community Hospital. The centre is run by Bristol Community Health, a not-for-profit social enterprise providing community healthcare in Bristol.

The first task of the morning is to allocate jobs for the day and complete handover from the day before. Jobs include who is on triage, who is attending meetings and identifying students that need supporting.
