I have recently seen another job that I would like to apply for but I am in my 60s. When I downloaded the application form, it asked me for my date of birth. I am concerned that the practice will not interview me because of my age.

Question:

I have recently seen another job that I would like to apply for but I am in my 60s. When I downloaded the application form, it asked me for my date of birth. I am concerned that the practice will not interview me because of my age.

Answer:

Health employers appreciate the value and benefits of a diverse workforce. A workforce made up of a range of age groups offers a better spectrum of skills than a group of one age.

In spite of this, I am aware there is a growing worry among many staff that, as access to state pensions is delayed further into our 60s, they will have more and more difficulty obtaining employment in the later years of their working lives. Despite the laws to stop employers discriminating against prospective employees because of their age, employers have the right to ask your date of birth.
