Career profile - Dave Dawes, nurse entrepreneur

Dave Dawes

Why did you become a nurse?
I took a career test when I graduated and it suggested nursing. My mum was a nurse, so I thought I would try it and here I am 21 years later. I love nursing and cannot imagine doing anything differently.

How has your career developed since you started nursing?
I trained at Macclesfield District General Hospital on the third UK Project 2000 cohort in 1990. There was a suspicion and stigma around Project 2000 and lots of nursing students received the brunt of that. My passion was for general medicine and that is the area in which I worked as a staff nurse at Wythenshawe Hospital, on qualifying.
