Job title District nurse cluster co-ordinator
Qualifications RGN, SCM, OND, DN
Why did you become a nurse?
I came into nursing when I was 17 years old when I gained a post on a pre-registration ophthalmic diploma course. I loved it so much that I really couldn't see myself doing anything else.
How has your career developed since you started nursing?
When I became a registered nurse in the 1970s, I worked on paediatrics before going on to complete midwifery training.
I then left midwifery in order to gain more experience and worked as a sister on a cardiothoracic intensive care unit. It was always my ambition to work in the community and I have done so for the last 29 years.
What does your current role entail?
I currently work as a cluster co-ordinator where I have responsibility for eight GP practices with 43 staff.
