Fact file

Stephanie O'Leary

Job title CEO, Community Healthcare Innovations CIC and practice nurse.

Location Redbridge and Havering, Essex.

Qualifications RGN, BSc, independent prescriber; diplomas in: diabetes, asthma, COPD, CHD, FP.

Why did you become a nurse?

I wanted to be a nurse or a teacher. As I wasn't in the top stream at school, I wasn't encouraged to go to university so there was really only one option at that time.

How has your career developed since you started nursing?

I spent five years working in operating theatres but changed my role due to the birth of my first child. The opportunity to work in the community came with the first change in the GP contract in 1990.
