Eating disorder training

Beat, a charity for people affected by eating disorders, has created a package of training for practice nurses and other primary care health practitioners to improve understanding and awareness of conditions such as bulimia and anorexia.

Beat, a charity for people affected by eating disorders, has created a package of training for practice nurses and other primary care health practitioners to improve understanding and awareness of conditions such as bulimia and anorexia. The courses can be tailored to individual CCGs. The courses are intended to allow practice nurses to identify eating disorders, undertake risk assessments, refer patients to secondary care services when appropriate, manage comorbidities and other complications in patients with eating disorders, and recognise high-risk presentations. The courses also include talks by people who have experienced eating disorders. The courses were created after a 2014 study found that primary care staff often diagnose eating disorders, but do not refer patients on to appropriate services.
