International Nurses’ Day

Nurses from across the UK will be supporting colleagues in need for International Nurses’ Day on 12 May

Nurses from across the UK will be supporting colleagues in need for International Nurses’ Day on 12 May.

Using the campaign #CaringThroughCrisis, Cavell Nurses’ Trust, a charity who support nurses, midwives and health care assistants, are hoping to raise vital funds for health professionals who are in need of help.

‘We know nurses are moving mountains to care for patients whilst facing crises in their own lives. This could involve domestic abuse, a family emergency, ill-health or financial hardship,’ said Victoria Lewis, fundraising manager for Cavell Nurses’ Trust.

‘So we want to make sure that there is always a lifeline open for those in great need, those who are #CaringThroughCrisis.’

The charity is appealing to nurses across the UK to raise money by holding raffles and cake sales, for example, nurses at the Chelmsford Hospital in Essex are taking part in the ‘Great Chelmsford Bake Off’ to raise funds.

Louise, whose name has been changed, was in a relationship where she was physically, emotionally and financially abused. When she left her partner, Cavell Nurses’ Trust was there to help to get her into a new home and fund her NMC registration costs.

‘I’ve given so much during my nursing career and I’m so grateful to know that Cavell Nurses’ Trust are there for me if I need help,’ she said.

Cavell Nurses’ Trust offer simple support from funding repairs for broken cookers or boilers to buying essential household products. Over the past 2 years, 90% of people they have helped felt their mental health improved and 76% said their support helped them get back to work.

With a shortage of nurses in the UK, it’s vital that working nurses are able to continue working despite any personal crisis they might be experiencing.
