Olympic homage to the NHS

Privatisation
The NHS must evolve to meet need, while keeping true to its founding principles, writes Bernadette Higgins

Wasn't the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games awesome? Britain's culture and history represented from the turn of the century into the internet age.

I was delighted that amid this whistle-stop tour of defining moments in British history, ceremony director (film producer and director) Danny Boyle, devoted a lengthy sequence to the NHS, featuring real health staff and patients.

When asked about the prominence of his NHS tribute, Boyle replied he felt 'free universal healthcare was an amazing thing to celebrate.' This has been heartily endorsed by the reviews the opening ceremony has received from the media. Bravo! resounded around the globe and throughout the UK.
