Q: As a nurse member of my CCG's governing body (and lead for long-term conditions/community services), I am struggling to get the executive team to appreciate the issue of practice nurse development and governance. They view this as the sole responsibility of the employer. I am keen to ensure practice nurses can access training and development to evolve services to meet local needs.
A: The executive team's perspective is blinkered, but not unusual. General practice development/governance is not up to practices alone. There must be oversight and a support/mechanism, such as external appraisal.
