Commissioning
Clinical commissioning group chair Andrea Gupta offers advice on influencing clinical commissioning

From April 2013, PCTs will transfer commissioning responsibility to clinical commissioning groups (CCGs). How will this happen and how will we know CCGs are ready to take this on?

The NHS Commissioning Board (NHSCB) has been working with stakeholders to ensure there is a robust 'authorisation' process for England's 212 CCGs. There are four waves of authorisation; wave one started in June;wave four ends in January.

Steps in the authorisation journey include a '360 degree stakeholder survey'. Member practices and other stakeholders will be sent a questionnaire relating to their CCG. A report will be produced based on these, forming part of the document review and development plan. The CCG must also submit documentation to prove it can meet 119 key thresholds.
