Why did you become a nurse?
As a farmer's daughter I was always looking after sick animals, then moved more towards human health. After looking after a sick relative, I embarked on a nursing career.
How has your career developed since you started nursing?
After completing nurse training in general and mental health nursing I started as an A&E nurse and moved to mental health.
I worked my way up through the ranks, including staff nurse, charge nurse, ward manager and matron manager of a mental health unit. I also completed a postgraduate diploma in forensic mental health. I then moved to offender health, starting my career as head of healthcare at HMP Gloucester, expanding the role to my current one.
